Explorers

Explorers introduces the youngest learners to computational thinking through visual block coding — sequencing, triggers, and simple logic — alongside early lessons in kindness online.

K–Grade 1Visual block coding4 semesters + capstone

Gives a computer clear instructions and builds a simple interactive app.

Semester by Semester

4 semesters, ~20 sessions total, each building toward the capstone.

Capstone: Show-and-Tell App

Explorers combine everything they've learned to build and present a simple interactive app of their own design.

A Week in Explorers

Step 1

Warm-up

A quick activity that reviews last session's ideas and gets everyone thinking in code.

Step 2

Teach

Instructors introduce the session's concept through a short, hands-on demonstration.

Step 3

Build

The bulk of class time — students apply what they've learned to their own project, with instructor support.

Step 4

Reflect

Students share progress, get warm feedback, and set a goal for next session.

Assessment

2 quizzes per semester (8 total) check understanding of key concepts along the way.

A project rubric evaluates each semester's build — not just whether it works, but the thinking behind it.

Warm, specific feedback from instructors after every project, focused on growth and encouragement.

Accommodations

Inclusive-design accommodations are built into every Explorers class — flexible pacing, multiple ways to show understanding, and support for a range of learning styles and needs. Let us know about any specific accommodations your child needs, and our team will work with you before the first session.

Curriculum Alignment

Explorers' K–1 curriculum is designed to support Ontario's early digital literacy expectations and maps to the foundational strand of BC's Applied Design, Skills & Technologies (ADST) curriculum.

Not endorsed or approved by any ministry of education.

Common Questions

Explorers is built for K–Grade 1. No prior coding experience is needed.
